Location: South of Millstreet, Co.Cork
Client: Eco Wind Power (Viridian)
Work Scope: Construct 1,100m of new floating Site Access Roads
Details:
"Wind Farm Civils" were awarded to contract to construct 1100m of new floating road in deep bog at the proposed 4 turbine 9.2MW Caherdowney wind farm in the mountains south of Millstreet in north county Cork. The road was built over a five week period during November and December 2008, progress was slowed down due to the fact that we had to share the set allocation of 30 deliveries per day with the contractor constructing an adjoining wind farm who were sharing the same access road. The road constructed was 5m wide and varied in depth to suit the ground conditions. The road was reinforced by a layer of geogrid and terram. Also included in the project was the construction of site drainage to suit the roads complete with silt traps and check dams where appropriate to control the flow of water on the site. Construction work on the hardstands and foundations is due to take place in 2010.
